BRITISH REPERTOIRE

Pieces
to discover
After working on the British viola repertoire from 1850 to the present as part of my doctoral thesis, I discovered a significant number of works for viola and piano that had either been lost or had simply never entered the standard repertoire.
A visit to the archives of the British Library in London allowed me to uncover an early 1900s edition of the Romance for Viola and Piano, Op. 32 by Ebenezer Prout (1890), a score that had previously been considered lost. I made the world premiere recording of this piece with the support of the Université de Montréal.
I also made the first recordings of Ebenezer Prout’s Sonata for Viola and Piano, Op. 26 (1890), as well as Peter Thompson’s Romance (2012), with the support of the Toronto Arts & Letters Club. Prout’s sonata is available directly on IMSLP, while Thompson’s work is published and available for purchase on the Fand Music Press website.
In 2026, I will dedicate my first solo CD to other little-known British works, alongside pianist Jonathan Nemtanu. This project will be made possible with the support of the Conseil des Arts de Longueuil and the Université de Montréal.
